Inside Story

Kitchen & Living Space: Zonal Design with next125

A light-filled open-plan kitchen and living space designed around clearly defined zones for cooking, dining, relaxing and storage. Using next125 cabinetry, natural finishes and considered furniture placement, the scheme creates a calm, contemporary interior where each area has its own purpose while still feeling connected.

The Requirement

The client wanted to make better use of a large open-plan space without losing the openness that made the room so appealing. The kitchen needed to feel clean and architectural, with generous preparation space, integrated appliances and practical storage, while still working naturally alongside the dining and living areas. Rather than allowing the different functions of the room to compete with one another, the aim was to create distinct zones that made the space intuitive to use. Additional pantry storage was also important, providing a dedicated area for everyday ingredients and household items while keeping the main kitchen visually uncluttered.

Our Solution

Dajon developed the layout around a zonal approach, using the kitchen architecture and furniture placement to subtly define each part of the room. The next125 cabinetry forms a clean, minimal backdrop, with tall units consolidating appliances and storage into a single elevation. A generous peninsula creates the principal cooking and preparation zone, while an integrated table provides an informal place to sit without introducing another large piece of furniture into the room. The sink area was positioned beneath the window to take advantage of the natural light and views, while open shelving adds a lighter architectural detail to the working area. Beyond the kitchen, the dining table occupies its own defined space close to the garden, with the living area positioned alongside it to create a natural progression through the room. The result is an open-plan space that remains visually connected but feels organised rather than undefined. A separate pantry continues the same restrained material palette, introducing warm natural timber, open shelving and concealed lower storage. This creates a highly practical secondary zone while allowing the main kitchen to retain its clean, minimal appearance. Pale herringbone flooring, soft neutral cabinetry, stone-effect worktops, warm timber and subtle black detailing bring the different areas together, creating a cohesive interior that feels considered, relaxed and designed around everyday living.
